AZIENDA AGRICOLA CHIANZANO
Chianzano is the personal project of Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola in Montemarano, Irpinia. After years working with Cantina Giardino, the family began bottling a small portion of their own grapes starting with the 2022 vintage.
Farmed together with their children, the small estate produces wines made only from grapes, with native fermentations and no added sulphites.
THE WINE
Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola
Chianzano takes its name from a small locality in Montemarano, in the hills of Irpinia, where Antonio and Daniela De Gruttola purchased a hillside vineyard in 2010. That moment marked the beginning of their journey as vineyard owners and winegrowers.
Today, the family farm includes around eight hectares of old vines spread across the area. For many years, most of the grapes were sold to Cantina Giardino, the natural wine project Antonio helped found with four friends, an initiative that played an important role in bringing the character of Irpinia to the wider wine world.
Chianzano represents a new and more personal chapter. Beginning with the 2022 vintage, a small portion of the family’s grapes is now kept aside to produce wines under their own label for the very first time.
The wines are still made in the Cantina Giardino cellar, following the same philosophy that has guided their work for years: wines made only from grapes, with native fermentations and no added sulphites.
The project is very much a family affair. Together with their children, Sofia and Francesco, Antonio and Daniela farm their small estate with care and dedication, producing both wine and olive oil while continuing their deep connection to the land of Irpinia.
