Cal Xurriu
Cal Xurriu is the project of Agustí Costa and Paula Sandoval, who farm small, overlooked vineyard parcels in the hills of Alt Penedès. Surrounded by forests and biodiversity, their old vines are cared for with patience, intuition, and deep respect for nature.
Working with minimal intervention in both the vineyard and cellar, they produce vibrant, expressive wines that capture the unique character of these forgotten sites.

Cal Xurriu is the project of Agustí Costa and Paula Sandoval, based in the hills of Alt Penedès, just outside Barcelona. While the region is best known for large-scale Cava production, the pair have taken a different path, dedicating themselves to small, overlooked vineyard parcels and low-intervention winemaking.
Agustí comes from a family of grape growers, but instead of farming large volumes, he searches for what he calls “special vineyards”, tiny plots of old vines tucked into forests and hillsides that many producers have abandoned. These clay-limestone sites, planted with varieties such as Macabeu, are surrounded by wild herbs, olive trees, and native vegetation, creating a thriving ecosystem.
Respect for nature guides every decision. The vineyards are farmed organically with biodiversity at the forefront. Wild plants are encouraged to grow, pruning is done only when the vines are ready, and wildlife is welcomed as part of the landscape. For Agustí, the vineyard is something to care for rather than control.
That philosophy continues in the cellar, where the wines are made with as little intervention as possible, allowing each parcel to express its own character. The result is a collection of wines that are vibrant, delicate, and deeply connected to the land they come from.
Cal Xurriu is a project built on patience, intuition, and a profound respect for old vineyards, preserving a side of Penedès that might otherwise have been lost.
